The Yeon-li technique assembles differently coloured clays before the vessel is formed. Thrown, cut into vertical facets, polished — in black, the variations between planes are shifts of depth rather than colour: one surface absorbs light, another holds it at an angle. BB358_2023 is built on this restraint.
What the height does is change the register of the object entirely. Where the smaller BB pieces ask to be held, this one asks to be looked at. At 35.8 cm it occupies space vertically, the way a sculptural work does. The narrow width — just 10.8 cm — keeps it from ever being monumental. Presence without weight.

"In Kim Deokho's Vestige series, every surface mark is a record of time — unplanned, uncontrolled, and entirely unrepeatable. A thought drawn in clay."
