The Vestige series is built on a single premise: that the marks left in making are not accidents to be corrected, but the subject itself. Vestige_CC243_2023 begins with Yeon-li — a technique of assembling differently coloured clays before the vessel is formed. Once thrown on the wheel, cut, and polished, each faceted plane of the surface reveals a distinct layer of the original clay body: the colour is not applied, it is structural.
At 24.3 cm, this is one of the more contained works in the series. Containment here is not limitation — it is concentration. The same vocabulary of form and material that Kim Deokho deploys across vessels twice this size is present in full, compressed into an object that invites proximity.

"In Kim Deokho's Vestige series, every surface mark is a record of time — unplanned, uncontrolled, and entirely unrepeatable. A thought drawn in clay."
