The Wearing a Hat form takes its name from the raised, lid-like crown that caps the vessel — a domed silhouette rising gently above a rounded, egg-like body. In this Gentle Rise version, the profile is soft and continuous, the crown merging into the body without a hard break, so the eye reads the piece as a single unbroken gesture rather than two separate parts.
Jaejun Lee wheel-throws the piece in Korean porcelain before applying a pale celadon glaze to the upper portion of the form. Left to run during the firing, the glaze pools at the crown and drips down the shoulder in irregular vertical trails, stopping short of the base and leaving the white porcelain body exposed below. Fired in gas reduction at Cone 9, this belongs to what the artist describes as his current exploration of celadon glaze — an attempt to capture its breathing, dynamic quality at its most dramatic and fleeting moment, fixed permanently at the instant the kiln cools.
