This base version of Wearing a Hat is also the smallest and most rounded in the group: at 14.0 cm wide against 13.8 cm tall, the body reads as fuller than it is tall, closer to a sphere than an upright vessel. The raised crown that gives the form its name sits close atop the rounded body, its edge marked by a fine line rather than a dramatic step.
Wheel-thrown in Korean porcelain and fired in gas reduction at Cone 9, the piece carries the pale celadon glaze evenly across its surface in this photograph, without the pooling and dripping seen elsewhere in Jaejun Lee’s celadon work — a more contained result from the same unpredictable firing process, where the glaze’s final resting point is never fully controlled.
