Where some of Lee Songam's vases carve their surface into smooth, continuous waves, Vase IV's channels are rougher and more abrupt — closer to cracks or tears than to ripples. They interrupt the hexagonal facets rather than following them, giving the piece a slightly unresolved, working quality.
That rawness is consistent with Lee Songam's account of his own process — forms ‘not planned so much as discovered,’ where the marks left in the clay are evidence of a decision made quickly and left visible rather than smoothed away.
