Jar closes the Seolsan form into a rounded body with a small, dark mouth at its crown — the only fully enclosed shape among the smaller works in this series. A band of overlapping mountain silhouettes, marked in white slip against the dark clay, wraps the widest part of the shoulder like a horizon line seen from above.
Shin Suyeon builds this band mark by mark, sketching each peak by hand into the slip before it sets. The effect is quieter than her open, jagged-rimmed vessels — the mountains are held inside the form rather than becoming the form itself.

About the artist
Shin Suyeon 신수연
“The series moves freely between functional vessel and sculptural object. Some pieces fit in a hand; others command a wall. What remains constant is their stillness.”
